Voices for Philanthropy Campaign Launched
National, Nonpartisan Effort Seeks to Promote Philanthropy
Washington, D.C. -- Voices for Philanthropy, a national campaign to elevate awareness about the significant impact philanthropy has had on American life, society and institutions, was unveiled today. "Voices for Philanthropy is a nonpartisan effort to tell the story about the critical work carried out by the nonprofit community, and its impact on schools, hospitals and neighborhoods, on the fine arts and in human services, and in rural, suburban and urban areas," said campaign co-chair Linda Childears, President and CEO of the Daniels Fund. "By underscoring philanthropy's impact, we reinforce what most people already know, that private giving on every level has a profound positive effect and is an American tradition of which we are all very proud."
Childears helms Voices for Philanthropy with Co-Chairs Donn Weinberg, Chairman of the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation and Gary Yates, President and CEO of The California Wellness Foundation. The goal of the campaign is to engage leaders from every aspect of society, not just foundations and nonprofits, in building a broad coalition to powerfully make the case for why philanthropy matters. People who become Voices for philanthropy are encouraged to share their personal, in some cases professional, tales of philanthropic success.
"People currently enjoy the freedom to give their time and money to the things they are personally passionate about," stated Childears. "In a time of economic upheaval, we want to ensure the positive stories are accessible to remind lawmakers and others that philanthropy is working and should be allowed to continue to flourish."
